Q: Can I earn high school credit through a flexible pathway?
A:
CBL/IS: Yes, if you create a learning plan with a teacher and know how you are going to reach those proficiencies.
GMTCC: Yes, part of the requirement to attend GMTCC is being on track to earn the credits you need to graduate. In many programs, you can earn college credit as well.
Early College: Yes, you will be earning high school credit to fulfill your graduation requirements AND college credit for all of your early college classes.
Dual Enrollment: Yes, you will be earning high school credit to fulfill your graduation requirements AND college credit for all of your dual enrollment classes.
Outside of School: It depends, if it is an established credit bearing class then yes. If it is not, then no.
Q: Can I participate in a flexible pathway during the summer?
A:
CBL/IS: Yes, if you establish a plan ahead of time you can.
GMTCC: No
Early College: No
Dual Enrollment: Depending on your academic situation this may be possible although there are limited options.
Outside of School: Yes, depending on the program. (examples include GIV, Medquest)
Q: Is transportation available?
A:
CBL: Yes, if you plan ahead with Kim.
GMTCC: Yes, there is a bus that can bring you to and from PA.
IS: No
Early College: No
Dual Enrollment: No, however you may be eligible for $150 stipend to help with the cost.
Outside of School: No.
Q: Does it cost money to participate?
A:
CBL: No
GMTCC: No
IS: No
Early College: There is a $100 deposit fee to hold your spot. You also need to pay for orientation and your books and supplies as well as lab fees for your classes. There are financial aid applications you can fill out and you may be eligible for scholarship money.
Dual Enrollment: You will need to pay for books and supplies, but your dual enrollment voucher covers the cost of the class.
Outside of School: Yes, it typically does cost money but there are scholarships available either through the organization or through PA.
Q: Do you have to take a final exam?
A:
CBL/IS: You will need to present evidence of your learning through the method you chose when you filled out your Learning Activity Proposal.
GMTCC: Yes, the type of testing depends on the program.
Early College: Yes
Dual Enrollment: Yes, the type of test depends on the class.
Outside of School: Usually not but it depends on the program.
Q: Who are you supposed to check in with to make sure you are on track?
A:
CBL: You are responsible for checking in and keeping track of your progress. Kim Laidlaw and your teacher advisor.
GMTCC: Teachers
IS: You are responsible for checking in and keeping track of your progress. Mr. Guihan and your teacher advisor.
Early College: You will need to check in with your advisor at the college and also keep in touch with your high school guidance counselor.
Dual Enrollment: You will need to keep in touch with your professor and keep your guidance counselor posted on your progress.
Outside of School: It depends on the program, your teacher, advisor or the program organizer should be able to help. If you have any questions you can contact your guidance counselor.
